On February 10, 2026, Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President resumed Ghanaian citizenship application processing for the Historic Diasporan Community. This comes after an announcement of a temporary suspension of the application process for Historic Diasporans on February 1, 2026. The reason for the pause was to improve the application process, creating a streamlined, smoother experience for applicants.
The Ministry began scheduling applications in batches for vetting at the Dubois Center, Cantonments in Accra on February 11, 2026. To prevent crowding, officials are asking that applicants not come to the center until the Ministry notifies them of their vetting schedule.
The Ministry has to process a high volume of applications and has a short time frame to do so. It is not possible to process all of them before the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for March 5, 2026. The Ghanaian government remains committed to granting citizenship to all qualified applicants from the global African community. The Ghana citizenship application process is open, and no qualified applicant will be deprived of citizenship.
Applicants should check the Ghanaian government’s official channels for the latest updates and guidelines.
